Holli Horton Belvery
Holli Horton Belvery is Dance Masters of America Certified and has over 30 years
experience as an educator of the art of dance and performance gymnastics. She enjoys sharing her love for the performing arts with all of her students. Knowing that personal growth and enrichment can be gained by each student through participating in any performing art, Ms Belvery takes pride in teaching both serious and recreational students.
Ms Belvery was born and raised in Wilmington, NC and began dancing and tumbling at age 4. For many years she was involved in community theater in Wilmington, working with Opera House Theater Company and The Thalian Association.
She began her love for teaching at the age of 17 in Wilmington and Burgaw, NC. She moved to New York City in 1987 where she performed professionally with off broadway companies and national touring companies. During this time she continued teaching and developing her love for sharing the performing arts with others.
Ms Belvery founded the 3-Arts Dance Studio in Staten Island, NY in 1990, and for 20 years was known for her dedication and personalizedattention she gives to each of her students. In 1995, she formed the competition troup NY Rhythm and for 15 years the company was continually awarded for best precision, best technique, best choreography and 1st place trophies.
Ms Belvery has taught dance performance for the New York City Board of Education and was the Director of the Staten Island Academy dance program for 10 years. She also directed the Ft Hamilton Youth Activities Dance Program for 3 years and worked as choreographer for many theater groups, dance and cheer teams in the NY & NJ area.
Her goal is to help students have a better understanding and respect for the performing arts, therefore taking the commitment, discipline and confidence learned in the classroom to all aspects of their future. As the artistic director, Ms. Belvery oversees all class lesson plans, schedules, class size limits and student placement. She believes that each student deserves personalized attention and places strict class size limits on all classes. In addition, she is responsible for recital planning, themes, musical selection, musical editing, costume selection, choreography and direction of the show. Ms Belvery believes it is important to cross train dancers and gymnasts for better technique and overall appreciation of the performing arts.
With her vocal performance and music theory background she offers her students a greater understanding of the musical presentation in dance and gymnastics performance.
With her fitness background and knowledge as a certified personal trainer, she encourages the mental and physical wellbeing of each student.
In July of 2010 she moved back to NC and founded NY Rhythm Dance Academy in downtown Angier. Ms Belvery is very proud to be back in her home state of NC and to have the opportunity helped to bring the art of dance and performance gymnastics to Angier and the surrounding areas.
